Best Poster Presentation Award, 36th TSB Conference, 2024

The Association of Nigerian Students at Chulalongkorn University (ANSCU) proudly celebrates the outstanding achievement of Mr. Abubakar Saadu, a master’s degree researcher in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University. Abubakar’s poster presentation entitled, “Production of recombinant protein of PmMD2 from black tiger shrimp using Escherichia coli system,” was awarded the Best Poster Presentation Award at the 36th Annual Meeting of the Thai Society for Biotechnology and International Conference Nature’s Blueprint: A Journey towards Sustainable Development through the BCG Economy Model”, held between November 14-16, 2024 at Krungsri River Hotel in Ayutthaya, Thailand. This innovative study focused on how the myeloid differentiation factor 2 (MD-2)-related lipid-recognition (ML) domain plays a key role in immune response regulation, particularly in the recognition of lipopolysaccharides. However, its function in viral infection in crustaceans remains unclear. In this study, he successfully cloned and characterized MD-2 from Penaeus monodon (PmMD-2). The MD-2 gene was expressed in Escherichia coli to a final concentration of 0.3mM IPTG at 37◦C for 2hr, and the recombinant protein was purified for further functional studies. SDS-PAGE analysis confirmed that the recombinant protein was expressed in the soluble form and was efficiently purified. These findings lay the groundwork for future research into the role of PmMD-2 in viral immune responses and its potential applications in shrimp aquaculture. This prestigious award underscores Abubakar’s significant contributions to agricultural biotechnology research and reflects ANSCU’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and global impact. ANSCU congratulates Abubakar on this well-deserved recognition!

Awards

Best Poster Award, 6th IAMBEST Conference, 2025.

The Association of Nigerian Scholars at Chulalongkorn University (ANSCU) proudly celebrate the outstanding achievement of Mr. James Danga, a master’s researcher in Green Chemistry and Sustainability Program, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University. James’s research poster on Ralstonia solanacearum’s metabolic response to Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, won Best Poster Presentation at the 6th IAMBEST International Conference. This work explores ways to optimize the use of nature to protect crops sustainably, reducing reliance on harmful chemical controls. The study investigated how the plant pathogen responds to the biocontrol bacterium using targeted metabolomics, as this knowledge will help optimize the efficacy of the biocontrol agent, and found that Ralstonia remodels its lipid membranes, boosting phosphatidylethanolamines and free fatty acids, as a survival response to Bacillus metabolites. This metabolic adaptation could guide the design of smarter, more resilient biocontrol strategies. James’s work provides a much needed solution toward eco-friendly pest control by reducing the need for harmful pesticides and supporting the use of renewable feedstocks, which reflect key principles of Green Chemistry such as prevention, designing safer chemicals, use of renewable feedstocks, and design for degradation—while aligning with the UN SDGs (2 and 3). This academic feat reflects ANSCU’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and sustainable environmental impact. ANSCU felicitates with Mr. James on this well-deserved recognition.

Best Poster Award, PACCON 2025.

The Association of Nigerian Scholars at Chulalongkorn University (ANSCU) is excited to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Ms. Modupe Adunni Raphael, a master’s researcher in the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University. Modupe’s thesis titled “Geographical classification of okra based on chemometric analysis of polyphenolic compound data obtained from HPLC-UV and LC-MS analysis” was awarded the best poster award in the food, agriculture, and cosmetics section at the Pure and Applied Chemistry International Conference 2025 held in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. Modupe’s study integrated analytical and chemometric techniques to geographically classify okra based on its phenolic profile. This developed analytical procedure serves as a tool for okra farmers to discriminate their product through geographical indication, thereby contributing to economic growth. This award underscores Modupe’s contribution to food authenticity and traceable research using analytical techniques. ANSCU celebrates and congratulates Modupe on this achievement.
