The ANSCU football team recently faced off against Chulalongkorn University’s Cambodia students’ football team in their second international friendly match, recording an impressive 15–3 aggregate victory in favor of ANSCU. Both legs were was played in a lively and supportive atmosphere, with ANSCU displaying strong teamwork, coordination, and attacking play throughout both games. From the opening minutes to the final whistle, both teams showed commitment and sportsmanship, contributing to an entertaining and competitive fixture. Beyond the scoreline, the match served a purpose greater than football alone. It provided a platform for interaction between international student communities, strengthening relationships and promoting unity through sport. Players and supporters from different national backgrounds came together to enjoy the game and celebrate friendly competition. Overall, the game was a celebration of sportsmanship, friendship, and collaboration. ANSCU looks forward to more international friendly matches and opportunities to build connections both on and off the field.

As part of its commitment to social responsibility and community engagement, the Association of Nigerian Scholars at Chulalongkorn University (ANSCU) organized a humanitarian outreach visit to Bandek Ramindra School for the Blind and People with Multiple Disabilities. The visit was aimed at giving back to the community, showing support, and learning more about the lived experiences of individuals with visual impairment and multiple disabilities. Members of ANSCU arrived at the school with a sense of purpose and openness, ready to engage, learn, and contribute in meaningful ways. Upon arrival, we were warmly received by the school administrators and staff, who provided an overview of the institution’s mission, structure, and daily activities. Bandek Ramindra School plays a vital role in supporting children and individuals with special needs by providing education, care, and skills development in an inclusive and supportive environment. During the visit, members were given a guided tour of the school facilities. We learned about the learning spaces and care units used to support students with visual impairments and multiple disabilities. The explanations from the staff helped members better understand the challenges faced by the students, as well as the dedication and effort required to provide quality care and education in such settings. We also shared thoughtful suggestions on possible areas of improvement, including the use of assistive tools and resources that could further support learning, care, and daily activities for the students. One of the most impactful parts of the visit was the interaction with the students. ANSCU members spent time engaging with them through conversations, simple activities, and shared moments of laughter. These interactions highlighted the importance of empathy, patience, and human connection. For many members, the experience offered a new perspective on disability, inclusion, and the strength of individuals living with physical and sensory challenges. As part of the outreach, ANSCU made contributions to support the school and its students. These gestures, though modest, were intended to assist the school’s ongoing efforts and demonstrate solidarity with the community. From December 18 to 21, the Association of Nigerian Scholars in Chulalongkorn University (ANSCU) embarked on a four-day cultural and educational trip to Chiang Mai, one of Thailand’s most historically rich and naturally beautiful cities. The trip was mainly planned as a refreshing break from academic routines, while also offering opportunities to learn, explore new places, and experience a different side of Thailand. The journey began on Thursday evening, as members gathered and departed by 8:00 PM for an overnight road trip to Chiang Mai. The journey took approximately 13 hours, stretching through the night. Although long, the trip was mostly relaxed, with members chatting, listening to music, resting, and enjoying the excitement of traveling together. For many, it was simply a chance to unwind, sleep, and mentally prepare for the days ahead. We arrived in Chiang Mai at about 8:45 AM the following morning, welcomed by cooler weather and a calm environment that immediately felt different from Bangkok. After freshening up and settling in, the first official stop of the trip was Chiang Mai University, one of Thailand’s most prestigious universities. Touring the campus gave members the opportunity to see its academic setting, spacious layout, and natural surroundings. The visit provided insight into another academic environment and allowed members to briefly compare learning spaces, facilities, and campus life with their own experiences at Chulalongkorn University. After the university visit, the group moved on to explore some of Chiang Mai’s popular attractions. A major highlight was the visit to the Chiang Mai Zoo, which offered a fun and educational experience. Members saw a wide range of animals, including elephants, tigers, lions, deer, monkeys, birds, and various reptiles. The zoo’s location near the mountains and its open layout made the visit enjoyable, as members could walk around, take photos, and learn about different animal species in a relaxed setting. For many, this was one of the most entertaining parts of the trip. Another important visit was Doi Suthep Temple, one of Chiang Mai’s most famous and revered landmarks. Located high on the mountain, the temple provided a peaceful environment and stunning views of the city below. Members admired the temple’s detailed architecture, golden structures, and cultural significance. The calm atmosphere offered a brief moment to slow down, reflect, and appreciate Thai culture and history, while also enjoying the cool mountain air and scenic surroundings. The trip continued with visits to the Hidden Village, Monkey Center, and Tiger Kingdom, each offering a different kind of experience. At the Hidden Village, members explored themed areas, took pictures, and enjoyed the creative setting. At the Monkey Center, members interacted with the monkeys, took pictures, and enjoyed the lively atmosphere, which brought laughter and excitement to the group. At Tiger Kingdom, members took pictures around the scenic environment and enjoyed the surroundings. These visits added a strong sense of fun and adventure to the trip. The final major activity of the excursion was a visit to a waterfall, which provided a refreshing and relaxing conclusion to the journey. Surrounded by nature, members took time to rest, enjoy the scenery, take photos, and cool off after several days of movement and activities. The waterfall visit allowed everyone to slow down and simply enjoy the natural beauty of Chiang Mai before preparing for the return journey. In conclusion, the Chiang Mai trip served its purpose as a refreshing and enjoyable getaway, while also offering opportunities to learn, explore new environments, and experience Thai culture and wildlife. It was a well-balanced mix of fun, relaxation, and light educational exposure, making it a memorable experience for ANSCU members.

On the 12th of September, 2025, members of the Association of Nigerian Scholars at Chulalongkorn University (ANSCU) paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Thailand. Arriving in the late afternoon, the delegation, numbering over fourteen members, were warmly welcomed by the embassy’s key officials, including the Acting Head of Mission, the Education, Sports, and Culture Officer, the Consular Officer, and the Immigration Attaché. The visit began with welcoming remarks from the embassy representatives, who spoke sincerely about the importance of upholding Nigeria’s image in Thailand. They reminded the scholars that as Nigerians abroad, their words, conduct, and achievements represent the country. They encouraged everyone to live responsibly, show respect to Thai laws and customs, and embody the values of hard work and integrity that Nigerians are known for. The officials particularly emphasized the need to be mindful of one’s environment, to stay out of trouble, and to always maintain good relationships with both fellow Nigerians and the Thai community. They also spoke on practical matters that affect students living abroad — from the importance of keeping passports and vital documents safe to knowing one’s rights as a Nigerian citizen in Thailand. The embassy urged the students to see the mission as a home away from home, a place where they can always seek help, clarification, or guidance on any personal or academic issue. They stressed that the embassy exists to protect the interests of Nigerians in Thailand, but also that each individual has a responsibility to represent the country positively wherever they go. After the opening remarks, the scholars were given the opportunity to ask questions, and this led to an engaging and open discussion. Questions touched on issues such as passport renewals and replacements, student visa extensions, educational support, and general welfare concerns. The embassy officials listened attentively and provided detailed answers, explaining ongoing efforts to simplify administrative processes and improve communication with Nigerian citizens. They assured the students that the embassy doors remain open and that no concern is too small to be brought forward. Toward the end of the meeting, the association presented the embassy with a framed plaque of its newly designed logo and name, intended to replace the older display in the embassy. This gesture not only reflected the creativity and unity within the association but also symbolized a refreshed representation of Nigerian scholars in Thailand. The embassy received the gift warmly and commended the students for their initiative, collaboration and organizational spirit. The officials also encouraged ANSCU to take the lead in fostering similar Nigerian student organizations in other universities across Thailand, ensuring greater collaboration, representation, and community among Nigerians studying abroad. To round off the visit, the embassy hosted the delegation to a light reception, serving food, drinks, and souvenirs. Laughter and conversation filled the room as officials and students shared experiences and took group photographs to mark the memorable evening. The meeting lasted about four hours and ended on a cheerful, reflective note. For the scholars, it was more than a formal visit, it was a moment of learning, connection, and renewed commitment to embody the best of Nigeria, even far from home.

On Wednesday, 23rd July, the Association of Nigerian Scholars at Chulalongkorn University (ANSCU) convened its 3rd Congress at the Chula Chakrabongse Building, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. The event brought together not only Nigerian scholars within the university community but also distinguished guests and stakeholders from the wider Nigerian diaspora in Thailand. Among those in attendance were the Consular and Immigration Attaché Officers of the Nigerian Embassy, Bangkok; the President of the Nigerian Community Association in Thailand (NCAT); and senior representatives of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO), Thailand Chapter, including the President, Secretary-General, Financial Secretary, and a member of the executive team. Adding to the prestige of the gathering was the presence of officials from the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, whose participation underscored the significance of the occasion and the value placed on Nigerian scholars at Chulalongkorn University. The Congress commenced with a celebratory session honoring the achievements of the 2024 graduating class. Graduands were presented with certificates of membership and recognition, symbolizing both their academic accomplishments and their contributions to the community. A notable highlight of the event was the recognition of Ms. Atamfon Wilson Udofia, the only Nigerian undergraduate currently enrolled at Chulalongkorn University. Ms. Udofia was commended for her outstanding academic performance within her faculty as well as her creative achievements, including winning the award for Best Short Movie. Her success was celebrated as an inspiring example of the talent, resilience, and versatility of Nigerian students abroad. Another major highlight was the unveiling of ANSCU’s newly developed official website, a milestone project designed to enhance visibility, strengthen community engagement, and provide a central platform for communication among Nigerian scholars. Following these highlights, the invited dignitaries delivered goodwill messages and guidance to members. Representatives of NIDO Thailand encouraged scholars to uphold Nigeria’s image positively by striving for excellence and integrity in all endeavors. NCAT emphasized the importance of unity and accountability within the Nigerian community in Thailand. The Nigerian Embassy commended ANSCU for its initiatives, reiterated the Embassy’s commitment to supporting Nigerian students, and shared important updates on passport processing and immigration procedures. Their reassurances were particularly valuable in addressing issues directly affecting the student community. The contribution of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs delegation further reinforced the recognition of ANSCU’s role and the broader diplomatic and cultural ties it represents. On the morning of June 14, 2025, members of the Association of Nigerian Scholars at Chulalongkorn University (ANSCU) gathered at 7:30 AM on campus for an enriching educational excursion to two of Thailand’s premier scientific institutions: the National Science Museum and the King Rama IX Museum in Pathum Thani. With over 40 scholars in attendance, the trip blended academic enrichment with cultural exploration. The group departed promptly at 8:30 AM, beginning the day with networking and informal discussions during the bus ride, accompanied by light refreshments. Upon arrival, members were divided into two teams, alternating their visits between the National Science Museum and the King Rama IX Museum for a comprehensive experience. At the National Science Museum, scholars explored captivating exhibits on the evolution of life on Earth, featuring dinosaurs, early humans, and milestones in human civilization. Immersive displays and life-sized models vividly brought prehistoric eras to life, offering valuable insights into natural history. The museum’s animal life exhibits further enriched the experience by recreating ecosystems—from dense forests to aquatic habitats—while interactive displays encouraged active participation and deepened understanding of biodiversity and conservation. The visit to the King Rama IX Museum highlighted Thailand’s advancements in science and technology inspired by the late King’s visionary initiatives. Members engaged with interactive demonstrations on aerodynamics, experimenting with models to better understand the principles of lift, thrust, and airflow. Additional sections showcased innovations in sound technology, environmental science, and space exploration, with hands-on experiments that connected scientific concepts to real-world applications. From satellite technology to sustainability initiatives, these exhibits underscored Thailand’s role in global scientific advancement. After the museum tours, the groups reconvened for a communal lunch, exchanging reflections and insights gained from the day. The discussions reinforced the educational value of the trip and strengthened bonds within the ANSCU community.
